I became involved in the metal building industry in 1987 when I worked with Building Technologies in Atlanta, Georgia. Bill Crim, the purchasing manager, gave me an office, a phone and a desk in their Norcross office. I was not an employee and all he asked was that, if there were any problems, he would be the first to know. My responsibility was to move their excess, obsolete and distressed inventory and create a new profit center within the company. I turned their problem inventory into cash, over a million dollars in 1987. Since that time, I have always owned my own company and primarily sold into the metal buidling industry. I am well rounded in my knowledge of processing and painting, as well as sales. I am able to complete a sale from purchase, to the processing, to the shipping and finally to invoicing and collecting receivables. I have also sold to the following: oil field tank manufacturers, HVAC, waste container manufacturers, conveyor manufacturers, automotive stampers, and stud manufacturers. I have a really good technical knowledge of steel. I know ASTM specs and have an excellent grasp of the chemical and physical properties of steel and how they make the end product perform. I have been in countless manufacturing facilities, several paint lines, and a couple of steel mills. My technical expertise allows me to do a very good job for my customers. I know their equipment and what steel will give them their best manufactured product. Most important of all, I have a great relationship with my customers. My customers are my greatest asset. I always focus on long-term relationships. Any sale has to serve the best interest of my customer. My philosophy is that a healthy customer gives me a healthy business.
